Samsara Review :: December 2008
"Guitarist Gregory James' latest release is a warm and spacious collection of gentle flamenco music, supported by his sympathetic jazz ensemble. Selections like 'A Bench By The Sea' and the title track have a luminescent and lilting openness to them that is alluring. Long time James associate Baron Shul's ethereal flute on 'Akavit' as well as the saxophonist's breathy baritone on 'Quantum Love' wraps around James' swaying strings like late night dancers in embrace. Sticking mostly to eloquent originals, James also mines the '60s songbook for a romantic take of The Beatles' 'And I Love Her' and John Coltrane's classic 'Naima' to rapturous effect. Gracious, and drawing any listener in with subtlety, Gregory James' Samsara is a keeper."

Festival Promo :: July 2008
"The Gregory James Quartet promises to let the music go where the spirit leads. Guitarist Gregory James performed with a diverse range of artists from Ray Charles to Van Morrison, Jean Luc Ponty and Chico Hamilton before starting the Gregory James Band. The quartet fills out with Baron Shul (Indigo Swing) on sax and flute, Rikki Medow on congas, and Jon Herrera on bass. Expect a boundary-pushing, crowd-pleasing, improvisational experience from start to finish."

I love scientists and they're very much like musicians. They're intuitive and gifted and they need the proper nurturing environment to produce their best work.
